In today’s language classroom, teachers need a firm understanding of the role that assessment and evaluation has on the learning outcomes of their students.

Whether you are responsible for developing assessments, ongoing assessment of learners or monitoring the success of language programs, an understanding of the theoretical and practical issues in this field will help inform the decisions you are required to make.

With the growing need for accessible, affordable and flexibly-delivered courses in language assessment and testing, the Professional Certificate in Language Assessment will help you provide high quality testing with reliable results.

Developed by the Language Testing Research Centre, this is one of the few courses available online that specialises in language assessment training.

Course aims

We’ve designed this course to improve the standard of language assessment literacy around the world across a broad range of contexts. You will develop a specific set of skills required to deliver and assess language tests and enhance the day-to-day running of your language program to improve your student’s outcomes.

Who the course is for

This course has been designed for qualified language teachers as well as professionals who deliver language assessment such as:

  • Teachers of:
    • Second languages
    • ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students) programs
    • TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) programs
    • EAL (English as an Additional Language) programs
  • Staff in organisations that conduct language testing

Career outcomes

Whether you’re a language teacher looking to gain the confidence to deliver high quality assessments or someone who wants to specialise in this growing field, a qualification in language assessment can help you get there.

As a graduate of this course, you will have a broad understanding of how language assessment is used in different contexts and be able to promote best practice in your current and future workplaces. You will be able to think critically and creatively and become adept at learning in a range of ways, including through information and communication technologies. More importantly, you will be able to improve the outcomes of your students with advanced skills in setting meaningful assessments.
